In 1973 he sold his stamp collection to buy his first camera and began filming his friends. His professional career started in 1978 with his first movie "ECCE BOMBO" -a cult film for many Italians- and went on triumphantly, resulting in glorification from film lovers, as well as critics, and international recognition, sweeping away film festival nominations and awards with movies like "Caro Diario", "Aprile", "La stanza del figlio", "Il caimano" etc
This year he has been appointed Jury president for the 65th Cannes Film Festival.
The following scene comes from the movie "Aprile" and it`s about him being stressed out because his wife is expecting their baby, something which leads him to funny out-of-control behaviour. His wife, his mom, his mother in law and his baby, all appear as ...themselves.
In this scene they`re showing the baby dowry and N. Moretti can`t wait for his turn to come. Surrealism leads him to constantly harass his mother, by asking her "when will we show our things, mom?" and while she tries to calm him down unsuccessfully, in the end he takes out his baby stuff and shows them a never-ending series of baby shoes, mumbling, while noone pays attention to him.
